Standardized Test Prep Tutoring
Individualized instruction for standardized tests can be hard to find. Too often, large tutoring companies try to use a single approach for all students, no matter their learning style or previous experience with the test. At the Friendly Tutor, we begin with a consultation and a diagnostic test to gauge the areas in need of most attention, and we develop a learning plan meant to boost your scores in the quickest and most painless manner possible.
Through a combination of direct instruction and consistent practice, we offer you the strategies to help you navigate these intimidating tests, and we give you the necessary experience to feel confident on test day. You have the option of enrolling in small group sessions centered around test taking strategies and subject content, as well as one-on-one instruction geared toward addressing individual areas of weakness and guided practice. After a free consultation, you have the flexibility to choose either of these options or a combination of the two. We guarantee that you will see a rise in both your scores and your confidence.
Testimonials
“I have used other tutors before Matt for test prep, and I just wish I had found him earlier. He was a tremendous help, easy to get along with, and gave extremely helpful explanations. I highly recommend!!!”
“Two of our kids/students have worked with Matt for years now, and we couldn’t be more grateful for his help. As parents, we just can’t do it all — we need help. And having Matt as part of the team has been a godsend. Our kids truly enjoy, and really benefit from, their time with Matt. It’s truly the best money we spend.”
“From since I was little, I’ve hated math and science. I knew that when I was going to take the ACT, it was going to be a struggle to get these scores up. I worked with Matt for about a month and a half during the summer, and not only did I begin to enjoy math and science more, but he helped get my scores up tremendously. My math score increased by 11 points, and my science score by 7. Overall, he was able to help me get my ACT score up by 10 points all together from when I took the pre-ACT my sophomore year. He was a tremendous help and will help you reach your goals!!”
“Matt is an exceptional tutor! He is patient, kind, and knowledgeable about a lot of subjects. He has helped my son Jack in Chemistry, English, Geometry, and Algebra. Matt is a super great tutor!”
“Matt has been extremely helpful with studying for my SAT. He helped me improve in all aspects of the test. I would recommend him to anyone who is taking the SAT or ACT.”
“Matt worked with our son in preparing him for the ACT. They built a great partnership and our son genuinely enjoyed working with Matt. Matt had the right level of being supportive and encouraging while also pushing for better results along the way. His style and approach resonated well. We have already recommended him to other friends of our and he is now about to start working with our daughter. There is a reason his moniker is “The Friendly Tutors”! :)”
“Matt was recommended to us by a friend. From the first meeting, he established a great working relationship with E. Matt was able to motivate, encourage and “gently nudge” E to want to prepare and do his best on the SAT. Matt’s ability to have E take ownership of the studying process proved to be a success when on first test, our son was able to bring his score up 290 points from his practice test! We have and will continue to recommend Matt to anyone looking for a test prep tutor.”

How Individualized Education Can Boost Confidence and Inspire a Love of Learning
A student's lack of confidence often has less to do with their actual abilities than with being taught in a way that does not match their individual learning style. Private tutors can adapt their teaching styles to the needs of individual students, thereby boosting confidence and even inspiring a new love of learning.
SAT or ACT: Which Test Is Right For You?
When choosing between the SAT and the ACT, the most important thing to keep in mind is that the two tests are ultimately quite similar.
